Dear CE Pittman and MD Dems Leadership,

The Maryland Democratic Party's June 27 "Fight Back & Win Gala" is supposed to be about the future. It is supposed to be about rebuilding after 2024, energizing voters, and preparing for the challenges ahead.

Instead you chose to invite President Joe Biden as your keynote speaker.

I join other Maryland voters in calling for our state’s Democratic Party to cancel Biden's appearance. And if they refuse, we are calling on Democratic elected officials and candidates to stay home.

Last year, you led the MD Dems in launching a statewide Talk-Back Tour to hear directly from your base. One issue came up repeatedly: Gaza.

For many of us, President Biden's support for Israel's genocide in Gaza is not a minor disagreement or a footnote to his presidency. It is the defining issue.

Inviting President Biden as the face of this gala is the party's answer back to us: We heard you. We don't care.

The future of the Democratic Party depends not only on winning elections, but on earning the trust of the people it claims to represent. In order to do that, you first need to listen. This invitation shows that you aren’t doing that.
